Roberto Schiavi
I was born in Genova in April 10 1967.
After having completed the technical college and having finished my
military service, I began an artistic project, supported by a collector
from Genova who had seen and appreciated my work displayed at a small
local exhibition; this collaboration last about two years.
From 1991 I started to work alone and independently.
In 1993 an important curator from Torino ( Franz Paludetto) visited my
atelier and invited me to stay and work in the Rivara Castle ( To).
During this period (six months) I met a lot of well known international
and young Italian artists.
November 1995- My first solo exhibition was held at the galleria
Galliani in Genova.
January 1996, I took part at the Art Fair in Bologna, and in 1997 I
joined an exhibition with various Italian artists organized by the city
of Genova at Palazzo Ducale.
1998- Another exhibition with various artists at Belvedere Castle in
Bologna.
March 1998- The Galleria Galliani organized my second solo exhibition;
one interview and reviews are published in some art magazines. After
this, I decided to concentrate on working in my atelier. In the same
year an important Belgian artist (Jan Fabre) came to visit my atelier.
He liked my work and he suggested I moved to Antwerp (Belgium) in order
to experience new things and acquire more knowledge.
In May 1999 I moved to Antwerp where I currently live and work. Here I
am in contact with many artists involved in different disciplines:
visual arts, theatre, opera, architecture and above all classical music
(which has became my deep passion). In fact it is the discovery of
classical music that will radically influence my work.
I didn't exhibit much in Belgium, but I managed to find some private
collectors who appreciated and buy my work and in this way I earn my
living and support my art.
In 2002 I took part together with various artists in exhibitions in
Antwerp, Bruges and Bruxelles.
In March 2005, I held my last exhibition with various international
artists in Ghent, always in Belgium.
